Golf Bags
The different types of golf bags
There are 4 main types and the one that suits you will depend on your needs. Here is a quick description of each of them to help you to decide on the best type of bag for you:
1. Cart golf bags
Cart golf bags are generally bigger and heavier than other types of bags as weight is not such a consideration. As a bonus then you will get more compartments and dividers so you can be more selective as to how to store your clubs in cart bags as well as additional protection for your clubs.
This also means more spaces for the additional things that you need to carry like balls, tees, towels, umbrellas and other accessories. Generally cart bags will have some type of handle or strap to carry them easily between the cart and the car but they may cost a little more than other types of available golfing bags.
2. Stand or carry golf bags
Stand or carry golf bags are made to be carried around by their straps or handles and because of this the materials that are used to make these golfing bags are a lot lighter than for other types of bags.
Stand or carry bags can either have a few pockets or a many depending on the ideal weight and size for you and your clubs and stand bags will also have a fold out tripod so that you can easily stand them up vertically.
3. Staff or tour golf bags
These golf bags will generally contain the identical features to the mid or top of the range carry golf bags with the main difference being they are a different shape and will have the manufacturers name featured prominently on them. These golfers bags are usually the ones used by pro golfers on tour.
4. Travel golf bags
There is a broad range of travel golf bags on the market and it will come down to the features that you need for how often you travel and of course how you travel. There are soft and hard travel bags and ones especially for airline travel that double as carry/stand bags. Whatever the type of travel golf bags that you eventually settle on the main thing is that the shafts of you clubs don’t get bent.
What to look for when buying golf bags
1. Golf bags need to fit
This may seem a wee bit obvious but golfers bags need to fit in your car otherwise how will you transfer your golf bags to the course to play. Measure before you buy so that you know how much space that you have to play with.
2. Golf bags need to be comfortable
Try before you buy. If you are a keen golfer and spend a considerable time on the course then odds are you will be lugging golf bags with you so do yourself a favor and purchase one that is comfortable to carry. Add some clubs to the golf bags in the shop so you can get a realistic idea of what the golf bags are going to be like to carry when you are playing.
3. How do you transport it to the course
Are you are walker or a driver at the golf course because this will also influence the type of golf bags that you will be interested in. If you always use a golf cart then look at bags that are suitable for golf carts. If you always walk then different types of golfing bags will appeal to you.
4. How big does it need to be
There are different sized golf bags for the different lengths in clubs, which will vary depending on how tall you are. The rule when buying a golfing bag to suit you is to know the length of your longest driver and to buy a bag that will accommodate its length.
5. Wheels or no wheels for golf bags
Actually you will find that most golfing bags these days have wheels that are built so maybe this is a foregone conclusion. However, wheels are handy especially in places like airports and club foyers when you need. Just a thought!
6. Soft or hard golf bags
Whether you consider soft or hard golf bags will depend on the type of traveling that you do. If they will just be in and out of your car then the soft bags are probably the thing for you but if you regularly fly and your golfing equipment will be riding in the cargo compartment then you may want to think hard case golf bags.
7. How heavy are golf bags
This comes back to whether you will be carrying your clubs around on your shoulder or in a golf cart. If it is a golf cart then the weight of the golf bags is not such an issues but if you are carrying it over 18 holes then pick one of the lighter types of bags.
